SPRAYFINGER Graffiti Camp for Youth

  • Austin ArtWorks Center 300 N. Main St. Austin, MN 55912 (map)

Monday, June 20th- Friday June 24th from 10am- 4pm each day

Geared towards ages 8-18

Instructor: Peyton Scott Russell

If you met Peyton at the 2021 Austin ArtWorks Festival where he created a graffiti wall and hosted “Spray and Take” art creation, you got a preview of this summer camp. Russell developed the SPRAYFINGER® curriculum in 2014 and will teach the history of aerosol art and various spray paint skills in this 5-day camp.

Campers can expect to learn graffiti as a fine art with concepts that speak to it as a movement, a source of communication, and an art form enhancing the community. Campers begin drawing letters/fonts in simple forms that become increasingly complex through each camper's creativity. Campers also work with color paper collage and simple color theory. Camp concludes with aerosol/spray paint and the traditional graffiti motifs with mural applications adding in a variety of techniques, mediums, and images of their personal choice.

A limited number of scholarships are available for this camp. To be considered for a scholarship, fill out an application.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.
