Come and play with fire and color! Learn the art of enameling, the process of binding powdered glass to a metal surface. First, you will choose the color, shape, and size of your pendant, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece of art suited to your style. In this class, you will learn basic enameling skills. You will design, cut and shape your copper. Then you will prepare it for the enameling process. You will also learn how to sift powdered glass onto copper. Then with repeated firings you will heat and melt the powdered glass by the use of a Mapp gas torch. Then complete your design by the use of embellishments such as milleflori (Italian for "thousand flowers")wafers, enameled threads and stencils. A variety of chains and leather cords will be available to choose from for the final finish. Come and learn some enameling basics, and take home your very one of a kind pendant designed by you.
Participants should wear closed toe shoes, natural fiber clothing and have their hair tied back.
This class is capped at 12 students. Austin ArtWorks Center is stocked with soap, paper towels, hand sanitizer and tissues and public surfaces are cleaned appropriately. Consider your situation and use your judgement in attending programming. Social distancing practices will be practiced.
