Join Twin Cities-based band Her Crooked Heart, led by singer/songwriter Rachel Ries, for an intimate evening of music at the Paramount Theatre on Saturday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.
The show will feature the Austin High School Choir, directed by Kalle Akkerman.
Her Crooked Heart is a quartet blending classical and electric guitar; piano and vintage synths; cello, woodwinds and drum triggers—all in service of the voice. Four part vocal harmonies tell stories of transformation.
Ries is the recipient of a highly competitive 2019 Minnesota State Arts Board Arts on Tour grant. Austin Area Arts matched these grant funds to bring Ries to Austin for a week of music outreach including a multi-day residency with the Austin High School Choir which culminates in joining Her Crooked Heart on stage at the Paramount on February 15. All outreach activities are free and open to the public.
In May 2019, the band released their debut record To Love To Leave To Live and toured the United Kingdom and United States. Critics compare Her Crooked Heart to David Bowie, Florence and the Machine, Peter Gabriel, Tori Amos and Radiohead. Check out some of their music here.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage foundation.
