Join us once again for a great night of music featuring the groups Malamanya and Sonny Knight and the Lakers, as the Dick Schindler Celebration Concert makes a move to the indoors at the impressive and historic Paramount Theatre in Downtown Austin (just a stone's throw from the ArtWorks Festival...convenient!).
Malamanya
Malamanya is a band from the Twin Cities comprised of musicians who share a mutual respect and enthusiasm for traditional rhythms and melodies from Cuba and Latin America. Their style and their sound is classic. Their onstage energy and compositions reflect the communal, complex, and celebratory spirit prevalent in these music genres.
Sonny Knight and the Lakers
Sonny Knight and the Lakers, another Twin Cities group, are also on the bill. Sonny has been around music since he was a youngster, and after a stint as a truck driver was able to be a part of a band that would accomplish a lot in a relatively short amount of time. In the spring of 2013, Sonny and the Lakers hit the ground running- playing gigs a few weeks after their first rehearsal. They grew as a band, honed their craft, and built a following of fans. What stands out most are their strong performances, exuberance and energy.
The Peter Jacobs Jazz Combo will perform in the outdoor Paramount Plaza between the onstage performances.
These acts join the incredible track record of artists that have included Cloud Cult, Martin Zellar and the Hardways, Pert Near Sandstone, Alex Rossi and Root City, and Martin O’Reilly and the Old Soul Orchestra. It's sure to be a blast, and this time the weather won't have a chance to rain on our parade!
